This week, our annual Savatage episode comes early as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of 1994’s Handful of Rain! This album also happens to be the first metal record Chris ever owned so it holds a special place in his musical upbringing. Handful of Rain represented a time of transition for the band as they were reeling from the sudden death of co-founder Criss Oliva. More of a Jon Oliva solo project than a tried and true Savatage record, Alex Skolnick was brought on board to play lead guitar and Zak Stevens takes on vocal duties for the second time. We navigate through all the trials and tribulations and dig into each and every track from this transitional album.
